Day 1: Hue
Our first stop is 5km along the picturesque Perfume River, is hidden among the immense grape fruit gardens and ancient house of Thuy Bieu is Ho Quyen Tiger Fighting Arena and nearby Long Chau Temple dedicated to the worship of dead war elephants. These relics of Feudal era Vietnam contain amazing histories and evoke a time when these wild creatures roamed the jungles of Central Vietnam.
Bumker Hill comes from a different time in history - the exact time and indentity of the builders of these concrete bunkers is a matter of debate but what is indisputable is the beauty of the view of the river from the hill on which they stand. Great photo oppoturnities here.
Less visited than its neighbors but no less impressive is Thieu Tri Tomb. Dedicated to Emperor Thien Tri it contains 10 monuments and a tomb in 2 parts.
Enjoy a short boat ride in a Dragon boat across the river. Once used as a barracks for French troops, Hue's Temple of Literature is dedicated to the memory and worship of Confucius. Visit this symbol of education during feudal times and see its 32 preserved steles bearing the names of the 239 successful candidates in National Examinations organized through the Nguyen Dynasty.
We will then enjoy lunch of a famous regional dish at a local restaurant close to Thien Mu Pagoda - with its unique architecture dedicated to the Celestial Lady, add its charm to this beautiful natural setting.
